French painter, the father of modern painting. His luminous paintings are characterized by aproportionality, discontinuities and assertive rhythms. He conceived a new method of representation in his still lifes, paintings of Sainte-Victoire mountain, portraits and the Women Bathing series. In 1904, he wrote: “View nature as the cylinder, sphere and cone.” Picasso was impressed by Cézanne, whose retrospective he saw at the Salon d’Automne in 1907. His influence is obvious in the Demoiselles d’Avignon, and in Picasso’s early Cubist “Cézanne” period. Picasso owned three of Cézanne’s works: The Black Castle, Women Bathing and The Sea at l’Estaque.
